11 MVA Power Energization Strengthens PT Swarnadwipa Dermaga Jaya’s Green Mining Infrastructure
Listrik Indonesia | PLN Electricity Services (PLN ES) has inaugurated electrical infrastructure to support the operations of PT Swarnadwipa Dermaga Jaya (PT SDJ) in Penukal Abab Lematang Ilir (PALI) Regency, South Sumatra. The use of PLN’s electricity supply is projected to improve operational reliability, reduce PT SDJ’s operating costs by up to 78 percent, and support the implementation of green mining.
Robert Aprianto Purba, Director of Planning and Innovative Business at PLN Electricity Services, said the electrical infrastructure project was developed through a collaboration between PLN ES and PT SDJ to support the company’s operations. He made the statement during the inauguration of the electrical infrastructure in PALI, South Sumatra, on Thursday (August 20, 2026).
The electrical infrastructure developed by PLN ES includes medium-voltage (MV) networks, distribution substations, and a 36-kilometer double-feeder Medium-Voltage Overhead Line (SUTM). PLN ES also constructed customer installation substations, comprising a crusher-area substation equipped with a 6 MVA transformer, as well as Jetty 1 and Jetty 2 substations, each equipped with a 3 MVA transformer.
In addition, PLN ES installed a 15 MVA Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR) to maintain voltage quality. The infrastructure is also equipped with Low-Voltage Cable Networks (SKTR) and public street lighting (PJU).
The 11 MVA power supply for PT SDJ was delivered by PLN’s South Sumatra, Jambi, and Bengkulu Main Distribution Unit (UID S2JB). Robert said a reliable electricity supply is an important factor in the operations of companies engaged in port services and coal transportation.
"PT SDJ is one of the strategic business players in the port services and transportation sector in South Sumatra. A reliable electricity supply is essential to ensure smooth port operations. To address this need, PLN Electricity Services has developed electrical infrastructure that is not only technically reliable but also designed to support PT SDJ’s long-term business growth," said Robert.
According to Robert, the collaboration is part of PLN ES’s efforts to support the electrification of the private sector, particularly the port services and transportation industries.
PT SDJ’s transition from generator-based electricity to PLN’s power supply through the infrastructure developed by PLN ES is projected to reduce operating costs by up to 78 percent.
The savings are expected to support various PT SDJ operational activities, from loading and unloading operations and heavy equipment use to other logistics activities.
President Director of PT Titan Infra Sejahtera (TIS), Suryo Suwignjo, said the port’s electricity needs had previously depended on generators. This condition made operating costs a significant burden for the company, particularly due to fuel consumption.
"We would like to thank the PLN ES team. Until now, the electricity at our port has come from generators, and operating costs have inevitably been high, especially amid the burden of fuel prices. We have not yet calculated the environmental impact, but from a financial perspective alone, the promised savings are tangible if we use the full power supply from PLN. The estimated savings are around 78 percent," said Suryo.
According to Suryo, the cost savings are an important part of the company’s strategy to improve operational performance.
Beyond cost efficiency, the use of PLN electricity is also intended to support the company’s efforts to reduce the environmental impact of its operations.
Suryo said PT SDJ, which operates in the coal transportation sector, remains committed to contributing to carbon emission reductions through the use of PLN’s electricity supply.
"Besides cost efficiency, coal is often associated with less clean energy. Therefore, even though we transport coal, we want to make a contribution to the environment by reducing carbon emissions, and this project is one of the ways to do so. We can debate how much the reduction will be, but in general, our carbon emissions will indeed decrease," explained Suryo.
The use of PLN electricity is one of the measures undertaken by the company to achieve more efficient operations while supporting its sustainability agenda.
PLN ES also provides a 12-month workmanship warranty, valid until July 2027. The warranty is intended to ensure that the installed infrastructure operates reliably and optimally.
In addition to the warranty, PLN ES provides Operation & Maintenance (O&M) services. These services form part of PLN ES’s ongoing support after the electrical infrastructure becomes operational.
Robert explained that PLN ES applies the Beyond kWh partnership concept, which focuses not only on supplying electricity but also on providing electrical solutions from planning through maintenance.
"This demonstrates that PLN Electricity Services is not only present at the inauguration but continues to support customers throughout the operational life cycle of the installed infrastructure. This collaboration also serves as a partnership model that we call 'Beyond kWh,' a mutually beneficial approach in which PLN Electricity Services does not merely sell electricity but also becomes part of the customer’s comprehensive business solution, from planning and construction to long-term maintenance," he explained.
Faisal Risa, Senior Manager of Distribution at PLN UID South Sumatra, Jambi, and Bengkulu (S2JB), said the PT SDJ electrical infrastructure project could become one of PLN’s portfolios for offering similar solutions to other businesses in South Sumatra.
"This collaboration serves as a kind of showcase for us. Once this project is operational, it will certainly be easier for us to approach other similar businesses in South Sumatra, because we already have tangible proof here. We now have a portfolio," said Faisal.
The project demonstrates the utilization of PLN electrical infrastructure to meet industrial needs, particularly in the port services and coal logistics sectors.
For PLN ES, the collaboration with PT SDJ is also part of the development of integrated electrical services through the Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Operation, and Maintenance (EPC-O&M) approach.
Through these services, PLN ES aims to become a partner for the industrial sector by providing electricity solutions while supporting operational efficiency and the implementation of sustainability principles.
